HOW THEY WORK!

When you are pregnant your body will produce the pregnancy hormone HCG (Hormone chorionic Gonadotrophin).

This hormone increases in the early stages of pregnancy and pregnancy tests are used to pick and detect this hormone.

Some tests can pick up the hormone as early as 9dpo ( dpo :days past ovulation)

There are many pregnancy tests availble on the market and most manufactures rate pregnancy tests as 99% effective.

Here are some tips to follow when taking a home pregnancy test:

    * Use your first morning urine when possible (when hCG levels are most easily detected). If not, make sure your urine had been in your bladder for at least 4 hours.
    * Do not drink excessive amounts of fluids before the test to increase the volume of urine. This could dilute the hCG levels.
    * Read the directions included in the test thoroughly before starting the test and follow every step precisely.
    * Some fertility drugs or other medications may interfere with the test results. Check the package labeling for information.

TEST SENSITIVITY.

Some pregnancy tests can test for pregnancy very early on as much as five days before your period is due, the lower the mui the more sensitive the test.

10mui is the most sensitive of tests but please note that by testing very early you may recieve a positive which turns out to be a chemical pregnancy, these are quite common and most women would not know they were pregnant unless they used a very sensitive test.

HOW TO USE.

*Remove the test from the pouch.

* With the arrow pointing downwards immerse the test strip vertically in the urine for 3-5 seconds.

DO NOT PASS THE MAX LINE ON THE STRIP.

* Place the test strip on a non absorbant flat service and wait for the control line to appear, the result should be read at 5 minutes and it is important to ensure the background is clear before reading.

INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS.

POSITIVE: TWO DISTICT LINES , If the test line is fainter than the control line this is still regarded as a positive, to confirm however its best to test  48 hrs later as the concentration of the pregnancy hormone doubles every 48hrs.

NEGATIVE: Only one line appears in the control region, no line appears in the test line region.

INVALID :Control line fails to appear may be due to insufficient urine ,or incorrect procedural technique.
