Changes throughout the month

Cervical Mucus and position how it changes throughout the month.

The position of the cervix and cervical mucus changes throughout the womans monthly cycle and so by charting the amount and texture of the mucus and noting the position and feel of the cervix a women can help pinpoint ovulation .

Below are descriptions of  types of mucus a women will produce during this time.

Dry :At the beginning of her cycle a women will notice she has little or no mucus present this is described as 'DRY.

Sticky : Prior to ovulation the mucus begins to change and the feel of the mucus will be described as sticky or tacky, this mucus will not rub well between two fingers and will not stetch.

To retrive mucus, use a clean finger and reach as far into the vagina as possible, the mucus you will want to tezt should be as close to the cervix as possible, test by rubbing between the thumb and fore finger.

Creamy : Now that ovulation is approaching the mucus now changes from sticky to creamy, this mucus is a creamy white in colour  like lotion and will rub well between the thumb and fore finger but it will not stretch.

Watery : sometimes this mucus will appear just before eggwhite mucus or during ovulation itself so if you notice this type of mucus you need to note that this type is fertile.

Watery mucus will feel wet and will stretch a little and be virtually clear in appearence.

Eggwhite mucus : This type of mucus is considered very fertile, sperm thrive in this type of mucus and can swim easily, it's consistance will be that of egg whites (hence the name) and will be abdundant, clear and very stretchy, this mucus will easily stretch between two fingers and will web between the fingers. also known as EWCM .

Ovulation is confirmed once there is a rise in temperature and mucus changes from eggwhite or wet to creamy.

Cervical Position

Some women find it easier to feel the cervix by placing a foot up on the stool and reaching with one or two fingers as far back as possible, some women prefer to squat while others find they can reach their cervix by lying down with their legs bent up, what ever feels more comfortable will be the right position for you.

The cervix feels different to the rest of the vagina and some describe it as feeling like a mini donut, the cervix will feel soft like your lips or firm like the end of your nose it depends when in the cycle you are feeling.

In the centre you will feel a small dimple or dip (women that have had children already will  probably feel more like a small hole, this dip will feel closed during the early part of the cycle or towards the end of the cycle but as ovulation approaches the dip/dimple will begin to open up and the cervix will soft and high and open, this stage in the cycle is considered to be very fertile.

Ita best to test the same time each day to get a overall feel of how close to ovulation you are.

Right after menses the cervix will feel firm and closed and you will be able to reach it easily this is described as not fertile ,during ovulation the cervix will be higher, soft and open, this is described as very fertile, once ovulation has passed the cervix returns to its non fertile state 'firm, low, closed.
